Jeffrey T. Furtado

Every community needs someone crazy enough to start it. Jeffrey T. Furtado — also known as Jeff Furtado — founded audir8.ca after realizing North American Audi R8 owners were scattered across dying Facebook groups and generic forums. One car, one domain, one rule: real owners, real answers. Jeffrey's R8 is documented in full on the Founder's Build page — the reel that started everything is right up top.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an Audi R8 cost in 2026?

Gen 1 V8 models start around $65,000 USD / $85,000 CAD. Gen 1 V10s range $80,000–$120,000 USD. Gen 2 V10 models run $120,000–$200,000 USD depending on spec, mileage, and whether it's a Performance/plus model. Gated manual Gen 1s command a significant premium.

Is the Audi R8 reliable for a daily driver?

Yes — the R8 is one of the most reliable mid-engine supercars ever made. The 5.2L V10 is derived from the Lamborghini Gallardo/Huracan and is extremely robust. Common maintenance items include mag ride strut replacement ($4,800/corner OEM, $6,500 total for aftermarket KW V3s), carbon cleaning around 40,000 km, and R-tronic clutch wear on Gen 1 models. Budget $2,000–$4,000/year for maintenance.

What is the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 R8?

Gen 1 (2007–2015) offered both V8 4.2L (420 HP) and V10 5.2L (525–560 HP) with R-tronic, S-tronic, or the legendary gated manual. Gen 2 (2016–2023) is V10 only (540–602 HP) with the S-tronic dual-clutch. Gen 2 is faster, more refined, and has better tech, but Gen 1 — especially the gated manual — offers a more analog, raw driving experience.

Can you daily drive an R8 in winter?

It's possible with winter tires and the quattro AWD system (Gen 1 V8 and some V10 models), but most owners store theirs for winter. Storage costs range from $250–$450/month at a facility, or free if you have a heated garage. The RWD-only Gen 2 models and Gen 1 V10 RWD are not recommended for winter driving.

Should I buy a US or Canadian-spec R8?

Both are essentially identical. Importing a US-spec R8 to Canada can save $10,000–$20,000 CAD after all fees (customs duty 6.1%, GST/PST, RIV, transport, DRL modification). The process takes about 5 weeks. Going the other direction, Canadian cars imported to the US need EPA/DOT compliance but the process is straightforward for vehicles over 25 years old or already US-spec.
